Description

Fourth year students in RTA Sport Media produce major media  projects  in their final year of study that they first pitch to a panel of faculty and industry experts before being greenlit to proceed. This mini film festival showcases just a small sample of some of the diverse stories of equity and inclusion in sports that is a cornerstone to the Sport Media program at TMU.

IMPETUS :
Impetus is a documentary featuring Angelina Blessed, a Toronto-based Muay Thai artist who is a vocal advocate for the healing properties of cannabis for athletes. Her company, Blessed Edibles has recently launched innovative cannabis-infused products that embody Angelina’s mantra: “Train, Treat, Repeat” into the legal market. In an industry predominantly run by men, Angelina is brash and unapologetic - a fresh female voice for both the Muay Thai and cannabis communities.

ETHNICITIES:
Ethnicities is a two-part docuseries exploring the diversity in sporting practices across Toronto, highlighting Portuguese soccer and Filipino basketball communities.

FEMINA FORTIS:
Femina Fortis is a documentary that revolves around female powerlifting - an underrepresented and misunderstood sport that deserves more mainstream attention. As a group of female students, we were passionate to tell this story that demonstrates how strength and femininity are not mutually exclusive terms. It is vital for the sport media industry to showcase more diverse sports in order for society to become more knowledgeable and accepting of all sports, athletes, and body types. We are honoured that our documentary is being featured at this conference that focuses on diversity, and we hope you are all inspired and empowered by the Femina Fortis film.
