Cultural Diversity and Managerial Effectiveness: A Sub-national Study

Abstract

To attain sustainable competitive advantage, multinational corporations (MNCs) are continuously monitoring and changing their strategy towards diversity issues. To promulgate this fact that managing diversity itself is a complex phenomenon and it is very sensitive in MNCs operating in India. The current study has taken two dimensions of diversity gender (male; female) and geographic location (North India and South India). Respondents are taken from MNCs operating in north and south where total 329 managers are interviewed 165 and 164 respectively. The responses are taken up by a structured questionnaire of managerial effectiveness that examines their competencies in a diverse culture. The results of the research indicate the southern region of India has high managerial effectiveness than the northern region. The study also reveals that gender doesn’t affect managerial effectiveness much when compared in the same geographical area but it significantly affects when compared to different geographical locations.
