Abstract
“The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance; it is the illusion of knowledge.” Because terms like ‘implicit bias’ and ‘structural oppression’ have been used more in popular media over the past two years, there is a temptation to confuse familiarity with knowledge when encountering them. This study is aimed at providing a deeper understanding of these terms and how they interact with one another with a view to opening a door toward genuine progress in EDI work. I present cases of clear race-based disparities throughout education and society and work with participants to come to an understanding of the specific way that implicit bias played a role in this disparity.
