School Diversity: Where Are We? Where Can We Go?

Abstract

Working in a team environment is part of almost every institution, business, agency, and corporation. However, we continue to encounter a gap in balancing minority groups and their presence in leadership roles. This gap can be seen in public schools in the US. The US student population is becoming more ethnically diverse but not the principalship. Therefore, culturally diverse school leaders are necessary to join the leading groups. Concurrently, there is a lack of ethnocultural diversity in our teaching force in US public schools. School with culturally diverse teacher have a positive impact on students academics. I address the following questions: Where do we stand regarding the leaders and teachers diversity demographics in US public schools? What impact do minority teachers and school leaders have on others where they mirror the student demographics? What practices move schools to become more culturally responsive and diverse? How can teachers embrace inclusiveness and diversity in their classrooms?
