Implementing a Peer-led Change Team to Build a Strong Culture of Inclusion

Abstract

The future of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) requires us to integrate it into the fabric of the company, including policies, practices, beliefs, behaviors. Research shows that leaders and companies who implement DEI work with a focus on inclusive culture and empathy-building experience higher productivity and retention rates. In order to effectively meet the needs of a rapidly changing workforce, leaders must strategically influence and guide their employees toward the importance of DEI integration in the workplace. One proven strategy is the utilization of a Peer-led DEI Change Team. In this session, Grads of Life (GOL), a consultancy focused on building equity through employment, will introduce their research- and practice-based framework for the creation, development, implementation, and codification of a Peer-led DEI Change Team. Through small and large group discussion, peer-learning practice, independent reflection, and experiential learning, participants will be able to: 1) articulate GOL’s framework for successfully employing a Peer-led DEI Change Team, 2) recognize the data points necessary to begin accessing organizational culture and 3) contextualize GOL’s Change Team action plan template to begin organizational change.
