Indian Democracy Role in De-radicalization of Muslim Community

Abstract

Democracy is an important mechanism for the resolution of social conflict among different religions, castes, and linguistic communities in India. Democratization of India was successful in making its constitution as a ‘living’ document. The zeal for adopting a democratic political system in India is the result of Indians’ commitment in the democratic values that consolidated the sense of belongingness among all the stakeholders of Indian society. The legitimization of ‘one man, one vote’ political system disapproved the discrimination based on religions and castes. The result was that minority communities, particularly Muslims felt strongly associated with Indian politics and society. They not only became the stakeholders of the constitutional values but also the facilitator of democracy promotion in India and abroad. The rise of Islamist terrorism at world level had also spread its tentacles in India but Muslims were not influenced by terrorism because they resolved their grievances with their participation in electoral politics to vote for the strengthening of politically inclusive liberal-democratic order. The central idea of this paper, hence, focuses on democracy to protect the political rights of Muslims without fear of their radicalizations in India.
