Abstract
This study explores the experience of the African American traveling in public specifically in the contemporary hospitality industry. A preliminary analysis of the related literature suggests hospitality professionals sometimes stereotype Blacks as criminal or suspicious and treat them poorly as a result. By examining a series of recently reported incidents, this study uncovers the various challenges faced by those #TravelingWhileBlack and recommends ways in which the industry can avoid disparate treatment.
