Abstract
Gastronomy is more than the elaboration of food; it is a form of art and a cultural manifestation that evidence the ways of life and traditions of the people; it contributes in the development of the identity and sense of belonging of the individuals. In the case of the Manabita community of the Ecuadorian coast, gastronomy is a symbol of pride and has become a link between the people and the local products of the region. This work constitutes a case study that evidences importance and influence of the typical gastronomy of the province of Manabí in the levels of identity and sense of belonging of the Manabita community. The study adopted a mixed method design that allowed for the triangulation of the results between the qualitative component (interviews with experts) and the quantitative component (large sample survey using statistical analysis of multiple regression).
