Bodies as Sites for Change: The Evolution of Other

Abstract

Bodies as Sites for Change provides participants an inside look at the making and experiences of dance composition through an interactive, explorative presentation. Attendees will practice exercises used to compose and connect individuals in a collaborative setting and will be followed by a final video performance presentation of ‘The Evolution of Other’ - a contemporary dance piece developed in the Fall of 2017 for Ball State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance’s main stage series in Muncie, Indiana. This work explores the complexities of seeing and perceiving otherness and takes viewers on a journey through reflection and provides inspiration to celebrate each other. Performance footage offers a look into the overarching effects such exercises are able to create, and participants may share in discussion and questions regarding the artistic process. No prior dance experience is necessary to participate and all are encourage to come with an open mind and heart, inquisitive natures, and ready to interact!
