Religious and Cultural Diversity in Organizations: Paths to Uplifting Society

Abstract

The fading of national boundaries and stereotypical thinking necessitates the need to study diversity and inclusiveness in the organisation and the society at large. This paper focuses on the impact of religious and cultural diversity on organisational effectiveness. It also presents a shift in employees’ behaviour from skepticism to absorption, understanding, and promotion of inclusiveness in and around the workplace. The basic belief of ‘taking and giving back to society is applied in organisations so as to make employees understand that inclusiveness leads to enhanced productivity that further helps in achieving the goals of the organisation. Organisations are a sub-systems of a larger system (i.e., society) and therefore promotion and acceptance of such diversity in the organisation should lead to a more accepting society. This paper further explores the effects of managing diversity in the workplace. Findings conclude that religious diversity makes employees feel freedom to express their religious affiliations which makes them more satisfied and committed to the organisation. On similar lines, it is found that acculturation leads to positive employee outcomes whereby the employees feel satisfied and the overall organisational effectiveness increases.
