Evaluating Workforce, Management, and Supplier Diversity Attainment in the United States Hotel Industry

Abstract

The appropriate representation and genuine engagement of people from all backgrounds, especially at the managerial level, is critically important in the modern hospitality industry. Although the vast majority of American hotel employees, for example, are female and/or minority, the preponderance of lodging managers are White and male. This project examines accommodations for industry diversity and inclusion practices as they relate to workforce, management, and suppliers. The goal, through an analysis of hotel company websites and such perennial surveys as the NAACP Opportunity and Diversity Report Card: The Hotel and Resort Industry, The 100 Best Workplaces for Diversity – Fortune, and The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity, is to establish which of the four highest-grossing lodging corporations is most diverse.
