Development Education for Peace and Social Harmony in the Age of Diversity: Towards the Twenty-first Century

Abstract

We live in a global age and are part of a global society. At present, we are living in an age of change and transition, which is also known as an age of globalization and an age of diversity. The world has been transformed into a global village, barriers and borders are diminishing, and an emphasis is being placed on the importance of learning how to coexist with people from many different backgrounds. These global connections and global sharing are the significant drivers behind the changes of the practice of global development education for global citizenship from strictly national to more globalize. This paper examines this globalized system and explores paths for a total quality global education system, including the skills and capacities required for life-long learning in the twenty-first century. The paper explains the concept of Peace and Development Education, exploring the challenges of global development education in the age of globalization and diversity which promotes global citizens .This paper is based on the Indian philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam,” meaning the world is one family. It discusses a guided holistic approach to holistic sustainable human development. The paper explores how Peace and Development Education can best contribute to sustainable development in the twenty-first century, looking at the values, skills, and attitudes required for the development of education highlighting global citizenship and a sustainable future.
