Predicting the Big Five Personality Traits in Relation to Employees' Job Engagement in the Public Sector in Egypt: Research Paper

Abstract

This study identifies the relationship between five personality traits and job engagement (JE) of the employee in the public sector in Egypt. Qualitative and quantitative approaches were applied to 281 employees in the Egyptian public sector. The result shows that there were positive relationships between the big five personality traits and JE dimensions. The traits of personality such as extraversion, conscientiousness, and openness to experience were significantly related. Open to experience was significantly positive in relation to physical engagement. However, neuroticism was not significant with emotional engagement. Agreeableness and openness to experiences are significant with emotional engagement. Extroversion and neuroticism are moderately and significantly connected with cognitive engagement.
