Fostering Tolerance and Acceptance of Diverse Peoples: A Perspective from Early Childhood and Elementary Education

Abstract

This paper will provide various effective strategies and approaches to promote tolerance among children in early childhood and elementary learning communities. Given the crucial importance of having children develop as accepting and tolerant individuals, the paper will focus on actual activities for young children (ages four to eleven) with inclusion of recommendations of appealing children’s books that address the topic. Anti-bullying activities and approaches will be described and discussed. A bibliography of children’s books will be offered to all session participants.
