Adaptation in Responding to Climate Change

Abstract

The primary emphasis of the climate law regime was initially mitigation, but environmental laws and policies have subsequently included adaptation, loss, and damage. Both the incremental (aiming maintenance of the essence and integrity of a system) and transformational (aiming at the change of a system in response to climate change and its impacts) adaptation actions are included in combined climate change strategies, which are considered in this study. Adaptation implies and includes taking action to prepare for and adjust to both the current and expected impacts of climate change. It is considered a crucial response to climate change. It has been also treated as a key component of an integrated and balanced response to climate variability and change. While adaptation is a policy-driven mechanism, climate-vulnerable countries require adaptation as a matter of necessity.
