Emission of Greenhouse Gas from Biogenic Waste Treatment: Impact and Sustainability

Abstract

This research evaluates the impact of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission from biogenic waste treatments have on the environment and formulates a comprehensive approach regarding all the steps such as data collection regarding the waste management, analysis of several operations, transportation of waste, calculating the pros and cons the emission have on living beings and a thorough GHG assessment. These will guarantee if the undertaken life cycle assessment (LCA) tool is an efficient parameter to judge the GHG emission and whether it is capable in providing overall sustainability to the environment. The tone of the study is interpretive. The output from key shareholders of waste treatment plants help the study to achieve its prime objectives. It follows an inductive approach as new themes are unravelled through the course of the study. The research is based on explorative design. Further, primary data is assimilated through the respondents working in the waste treatment plants associate important outputs from major stakeholders like managers, staff, and other personnel involved in the waste treatment plants. An unstructured questionnaire was administered to assess their knowledge on LCA and the several difficulties they face while using it as a key decision-making tool. The respondents selected were asked regarding the waste management technique concerning the biogenic waste, transportation and the process implication on the environment was probed. The study checks the trustability of the currently used LCA tools in estimating GHG emission and measuring overall sustainability on the environment.
