Global Governance of Environmental Laws: Institutional and Legal Framework for Mitigation of Climate Change

Abstract

We treat environmental issues less seriously because the damage is not immediately perceptible. When informed of environmental damage taking place over a long period of time, we are do not seriously believe that we are capable of making a difference. Perhaps we become cynics. Or, as would say realist. It is precisely this attitude which has resulted in climate change becoming areal and serious threat to our survival. Our ever growing population, coupled with our relentless zest for innovation, has resulted in major ecological imbalances thanks to irresponsible deforestation and mining, uncontrolled use of minerals, mineral oils, fossil fuels and release of pollutants into air, water and soil. This has cumulatively resulted in large scale and unchecked emission of greenhouse gases, which in turn has caused temperature to rise, polar ice caps to melt, water levels to increase and entire species of flora and fauna to go extinct ,thus marking the beginning of an era in which our environment is becoming more dangerous than hospitable. The researcher has tried to trace the issue of environmental degradation and the major consequence of it being climate change. The research shall revolve around how in order to protect the environment and make it a better place for living, the sovereign states of the world have come together and formulated treaties and protocols in order to mitigate climate change and thus protect the environment. The protocols and agreements shall be dealt in detail with their analysis and shall also show how fruitful were they.
