Exploration of Teacher’ Role in Providing Awareness about Climate Change at Secondary Level of Education in Pakistan

Abstract

Climate change is hot burning challenge of human’ planet if not addressed timely will become a big disaster of human life across the globe. Though human world is making strenuous efforts for obtaining the sustainable development goals. For this education is given priority to bring change in human life and addressing the human life challenges as climate change is one of these. Education gives the awareness to the people about all changes happening in human life and society. Education makes its all efforts and polices possible through its teachers. Questions arises, how can teacher give awareness to students about climate changes? Objectives of study were: To find out factors affecting the climate change in society; to examine the national and international policies for addressing the issue of climate change; to examine teachers’ awareness about climate change; to explore the causes which hinder the teacher to correspond effectively with climate change; to recommend strategies suitable for addressing the challenges of climate change. Sample of study was 200 female secondary school teachers and 200 female students of the same schools and class. For data collection document analysis and questionnaires were used as tools of study. It was concluded that climate change was badly affecting the human life, Teachers and students were not well aware about the causes and effects of climate change. Hence teacher can play effective role in providing the awareness about the causes, impacts and remedies related to climate change if they are properly trained.
