Abstract
This paper analyses the perception of barriers to climate change adaptation from gender perspective based on empirical data collected from three coastal districts in Bangladesh. Given the reality of climate change in Bangladesh, adaptation is one of the major areas that need profound attention. Bangladesh has already witnessed various kinds of adaptation both autonomous and planned; this paper concentrated on three types of adaptation barriers. These are economic, socio-cultural and institutional. In a patriarchal society like Bangladesh, adaptation activities of affected communities are constructed and reconstructed by gender; consequently barriers to climate change are also gendered. Class and the experience of migration of the households also determine the perception barriers of adaption.
