Usage of Web 2.0 Applications in University Libraries of Islamabad

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to provide a survey of the university libraries of Islamabad (Pakistan) that have embraced the Web 2.0 technologies. An online questionnaire was designed in google forms which consisted of 3 parts. This survey was sent to the participants (Library Professionals) of 43 public and private sector universities of Islamabad. About 100 questionnaires were sent via email, of them 72, participants filled and returned. A statistical test was applied to collect the findings of this study. This study represents that some form of Web 2.0 technologies has been adopted by many academic libraries in Islamabad, but, generally very that few are aware of Web 2.0. The study reveals that those libraries who abreast themselves with this modern technology are educating their users more than other traditional library setup. The findings of the study acknowledge the strength of Web 2.0 tools in improving library services for users.
