University Libraries in Pakistan Embracing Technology

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to provide a reconnaissance of university libraries of Islamabad, Pakistan that are embracing Web 2.0 technologies in their libraries. An online questionnaire was designed in google forms, which consisted of three parts. The link was sent to library professionals in forty-three public and private sector universities of Islamabad. About one hundred questionnaires were sent via email. Seventy-two participants completed and returned the questionnaire. Statistical tests were applied. This study reveals that some forms of web 2.0 technologies have been adopted by many academic libraries in Islamabad. Very few are unaware of web 2.0. Findings indicate that those libraries who involve themselves with modern technology are educating their users more than other more traditional libraries. Results of this study highlight the strengths of web 2.0 technologies being adopted at various universities as part of their library services.
