Wakhi Cultural Museum

Abstract

Wakhi (Pamiri) has a rich culture and with passage of time the historical items of household, agriculture tools, traditional dresses, cultural house, food, musical instruments and other tools are disappearing from the villages and from the entire region due to climate change effects, floods, weathering, negligence, and limitation of resources. This idea considers plans to establish a rich cultural Museum in Gojal valley, which consists of more than 25 villages border with Xinjinag China, Wakhan Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Across the borders the same tradition and language is practicing from decades and Wakhi is declared endangered languages as of UNESCO report. This museum will be a resources center for the mentioned countries too, but I want to initiate this from my village first where we still have all these mentioned tools in every household and we need a Museum and an old Wakhi house. A Wakhi traditional house near the Karakoram Highway at access will attract tourism and become a good source of income for the rural mountain communities in the Karakoram Pakistan. It will include a resource center for traditional foods, handicrafts, local music, traditional dances, and other entertainment and healthy activities.
