Exploring Indian English Poetry

Abstract

My showcase is based upon ongoing research that I am looking at with regards Indian English poetry. I began developing my research from my undergraduate degree and have carried it through to become a larger project in my PhD project where my research looks at both male and female Indian English poets, in particular the gendered aspects of this poetry. I present my own creative practice that is a poetry collection written by myself that utilises my research on Indian English poetry. My poetry is inspired by the research where I am examine the level of transgression found within Indian English poetry. In doing so the research analyses societies progression (or lack of) in conjunction with what it means to be an Indian English poet in the late nineteenth century. Rabindranath Tagore was writing up until the modern day when Rupi Kaur is writing. My research brings to life my own poetry in the arts-based practice side of my PhD inspired by my critical study and own personal experience with an Indian-English identity.
