Abstract
With a special focus on pedagogical methods within the arts classrooms in a school, this paper attempts to understand the power dynamics within the classroom- between student and teacher, process and product, expression and perfection. Questions about the methodology of student engagement and art production are raised. Deriving from personal classroom experiences of the author, the research intends to throw light on the implications of classroom practices on larger life and perception of the arts and how these practices reinforce the hierarchies of the art world structures. The aim is to look at art education in schools as the first step towards building a more reflective, compassionate, and inclusive space for practice.
