Electoral Reform: Diversifying the Prior Limits of Representation in 2020 and 2021

Abstract

My paper focuses on the use of an electoral reform strategy called rank choice vote (RCV) that was used in twenty one cities in the U.S. by on one state for their presidential election during election 2020. Unequivocally, this electoral reform strategy has led to women and minorities winning elections diversifying the prior limits of representation these cities have used (based again on the theme of the conference). My study uses data from New York’s use of RCV in 2021 and in San Francisco that has diversified the prior limits of representation.
