Applying Digital Technology to Museums

Abstract

In the last two decades, the whole world has been changed due to technology. Technology has become the norm of everyday life, specifically in times of crisis. Many countries have applied modern technology in the tourism industry as a tool to increase its progress and achieve the highest levels of development. Cultural heritage and museums management is of a great importance to promote tourism industry and preserve our heritage for future generations. The main aim of this research to discuss the importance of technology in the cultural heritage and will focus particularly on applying digital technology into museums, especially in times of crisis like Covid 19 which has been spread in the whole world in the last two years. This research will introduce some examples of new technologies adopted by other museums in order to enhance the visitor experience and make museums more engaging. It will also shed the light about the situation of museums during Covid 19, how many countries take the advantage of technology to overcome this disaster. This study analyzes the current situation of Egyptian museums in terms of technology; investigates the problems that face Egypt in integrating technology into museums; and finally suggests solutions to make Egyptian museums engaged and consequently raise awareness of cultural heritage and museums not only on the national level, but an international level too.
