Abstract

This is an interactive and multi-media presentation based on1619: The Journey of a People. It is based on the original musical production authored by Prof. Ted Williams III, funded by the Illinois Arts Council, and nominated for the 2020 August Wilson Award for Best Writing of a Musical by the Black Theater Alliance Awards. It was authored during a recent sabbatical period granted through City Colleges of Chicago. Williams is currently presenting this work across the state as an Illinois Humanities Road Scholar and across the nation. This multi-media based session will focus on the sources of America’s current inequality and political division, and how we can empower students to affect change.
