Controversial Crockery: Pottery and Its Political and Subversive Undertones

Abstract

This paper proposed that the Crafts in general and Ceramics in particular throughout history has promoted a range of subtle yet rebellious undertones to provoke reaction and rebellion in politics, policy, emancipation and gender identity. This presentation will examine historical and contemporary artefacts from museum collections and public exhibitions that stand outside the presumed roles of functional domestic Ceramics to point a finger back at society to ask awkward questions an unusual and quiet context.
