Pluralism after the End of Art

Abstract

AC Danto argued that art history came to an end at 1960s as we have artwork indiscernible to commonplace emerged. He said that there are main consequences of the end of art. One is that we are able to define art successfully as the essence of art would emerge when art came to the end. The other one is that art will enter to a period he called it pluralism. Because there is no more direction for art to go on and everything is possible. Artists can do whatever they want. So there is no particular style for contemporary art. Postmodern art is just one of them. This paper will mainly discuss pluralism proposed by Danto and compare it with other ideas of pluralism and discuss the relationship between pluralism and postmodernism, and also definition and evaluation of art as well.
