Songs that Bind: Reciprocity and Gift Exchange in Community Based Arts

Abstract

This article focuses on one of the three case studies that featured in that thesis. This paper argues that the spirit of the gift is present in songs written by a women’s choir because of the relationship developed between the practitioners and between the artist and practitioner. The case study featured in this article examines a long-term music project that takes place in a community service organisation.
