Thoughts and Philosophical Causes Affecting the Art of Baroque, with an Emphasis on French Gardens

Abstract

In the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, during the Enlightenment age of Europe, the creation of new thoughts and new social and cultural movement, there was a tremendous change in the political, social, economic, and intellectual conditions. The intellectual and mental crises of the late Renaissance and the philosophical views at that time led to formation of new thinking, including Priority of feeling on wisdom, power, and … replacing the absolute Renaissance thoughts. Religiously, separation in the religion of Christianity, in contrast to the Catholic religion, the Protestant religion was formed. The religious movement led the leaders of the Catholic Church urged to use artistic attraction to propagate religion and thus improve their precarious position. That’s why artists were asked to create a magnificent churches. European kings, in the pursuit of independence and proof of their power, they wanted to show their power to all with their majestic palaces. The artists were protesting the Renaissance art and its order and stability, and they wanted a free art creation. The seventeenth-century scholarly discoveries opened up new inventions and industrial advances during the Baroque period. Therefore, the present article tries to investigate factors that have been involved in the flourishing of that era from different aspect.
