Gregoire Kananda’s Updates

Week one assignment

Question #1. Should Harmonia conduct an EPI survey early next year? What are your considerations?

Yes because vaccination coverage data for Harmonia are not of good quality. The projection of the population made on the census of 15 years ago underestimates children under 1 years. Although in the community several children are not vaccinated according to the demographic survey, vaccine coverage of Penta 1 is over 100% for administrative coverage.

With a good immunization card retention has 80% the demographic survey has given the reality of immunization coverage. With DTP1 coverage at 95% and DTP3 at 80%, there is a dropout of 15.78% and a coverage of 75% for measles, this shows a good accessibility of weak retention. The performance of immunization service is not good.

Question #2. The steering committee includes representatives from the national Ministry of Health, National Statistics Office, WHO, UNICEF, and a donor. Given what you have already learned about Harmonia, what do you think will be their primary question of interest for the survey (estimation, comparison, or classification)? Why?

The data being of poor quality we cannot compare or classify. The key is to make an estimate of the coverage that will allow us to compare and classify in the future

Question #3. Who will comprise the target population and why?

The target will be children 12-24 months to appreciate the immunization coverage of children supposed to complete their routine vaccination schedule of 0-11 months.
