  Two years ago I fell in love with coding and what the future holds for our students if they gained knowledge and experience in the field of computer science. I started providing learning opportunities during "free time" in my Health classes, and was fortunate to have an administration that supported growth and new learning opportunities. Last year, we introduced "Intro to Digital Technology" to our eighth graders, which led to courses in Computer Literacy and Coding for our sixth and seventh graders this year. My students love their new learning, and becoming creators instead of just consumers. Most would say our class is their favorite class of their day! I hear it all the time! Throughout their "fun" in learning to code, they are also becoming problem-solvers, collaborators, improving math knowledge and skills, and strengthening their own self-esteem, I love it! I also lead an Academy group, 6th-8th grade girls exclusively, using CS-First with Scratch. This diverse group of young ladies has created amazing works, and we have expanded this group to maximum capacity for our 2nd semester. Several of these once shy and quiet students are now preparing to compete with their coding, programming and robotics skills at our regional Technology Fair. I am currently working towards a CS endorsement to increase my knowledge and skills to ensure future success for all of my students.
