In 2011–2012, I spent a year studying with you at UIUC focusing on research universities governance and statutes. During my time at UIUC, I read many articles and books about the governance of public research universities. We analyzed the features of American university governance structures and Chinese university governance structures and contextualized the formation of the different features in relation to the cultures of America and China. The research project made me consider the shared governance in American universities as an attractive design that has made me think about the idea of shared governance as a basis for avoiding the shortcoming of Chinese university governance. I have followed up these ideas in the journals Development and Evaluation of Higher Education and Education Research Monthly (in Chinese).
