Andreas G. Philaretou, Ph.D., PMCMFT, author and lecturer, is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Social & Behavioral Sciences in the School of Humanities & Social Sciences at European University Cyprus (EUC) and a special scientist (part time lecturer) in the Department of Hotel & Tourism Management at Cyprus Technological University.
He has received his BS and MS degrees in Sociology, and his Ph.D. in Human Development, from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA. In addition, he earned a Post-Masters Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy (PMCMFT) and had been certified as a Family Life Educator (FLE).
Dr. Philaretou, a qualitative methodologist, has taught various social psychology and psychology, courses throughout his academic career as well as a limited number of sociology courses. His research and teaching interests revolve mainly around topics of social psychological significance specifically as they apply to gender and sexuality, sexualized environments, psychosexual well being, as well as leisure and entertainment, all examined within the framework of established social psychological perspectives. He is the author/co-author of three recently published books (2004, 2006, & 2009) on masculinity, male sexuality, and atypical sexual behaviors. His research has appeared in various peer-reviewed academic journals and presented at several professional international conferences throughout the past decade.
