NILOA Assessment Modules 101’s Updates

Getting Started

Welcome to the Learning Assessment Course, created by the Learning Assessment Research Consortium (LARC). This course holds a wealth of resources and we hope you find it to be intellectually challenging, interactive, and fun.

Here are some key items to help get you started:

  1. Explore the course site. There are several sections on the top of homepage and profile settings & notifications up in the top right-hand corner. The home page also includes a window for News-related items. Be sure to check and read this for announcements related to the course.
  2. Ready to begin the professional development modules? Click on the green arrow labeled "Course Content" to access the LARC content.
  3. Pick the modules that will fit your personal needs. You may complete them in any order, however we have ordered the materials in order of complexity.
  4. The course includes a total of six modules, each containing several sub-modules: 1) Assessment Benefits & Barriers; 2) Demystifying Assessment; 3) Goals & Objectives; 4) Gathering Data; 5) Using Assessment Data; and 6) Developing Sustainable Assessment Practices.
  5. Course elements have been designed for a combination of online and face-to-face delivery. The materials are robust enough however, that each module can be customized to whatever format you feel most appropriate for your needs.
  6. These modules can be facilitated through multiple formats: 1) asynchronous individual use, 2) use as part of a facilitated, in-person workshop, and 3) use in a blended model, in which participants complete reading and tasks in the model prior to meeting in-person or synchronously online as a group. The facilitation guides provide suggestions on how to best deliver the content in the various modalities.
