Ubiquitous Learning and Instructional Technologies MOOC’s Updates

Essential Update #1 - Learning Technology

One of my favorite learning technologies for the K-12 classroom is Flipgrid. Flipgrid allows students to interact by creating a video in response to the teacher's prompt. Then students can watch and respond to other students' videos. Here's a grid topic: https://flipgrid.com/e48067d5 Take a minute to create your own response.

In this ISTE article, "8 ways to empower student voice", almost all of these can be accomplished through Flipgrid. Students love Flipgrid because it has a social media feel. They record and publish a video like YouTube. Student responses can be "liked" or "hearted." While creating their response students can add filters, stickers, and pose for a selfie. Flipgrid also makes an excellent presentation tool, especially for students who might be a little shy. They can choose to display their work rather than their face, but they still have an opportunity to be heard.

When I have used Flipgrid in model lessons for teacher's in my district, they are always surprised that the entire class willingly participates. There are so many ways to engage students with Flipgrid. In fact, here's a quick blog post with 30+ ways to use it. I love #26, encouragement from home!
