I graduated from Shizuoka University in 1996 and went on to the graduate school of the University of Tsukuba. As a graduate student, I had an opportunity to study at the English Department of Rutgers University for the year 2001-2. I have been teaching at the University of Kochi since 2003. My major field of study is 19th-century American literature. My graduate research started with Melville and Emerson, but what I have been working on for the last several years is the idea of history in America from the early national era though the nineteenth century. Jeremy Belknap is one of my chief interests in this project.
