PhD candidate at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Hawai'i Manoa, Vera holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Venice, Ca' Foscari, in Japanese studies, a Diploma in Advanced International Studies from the SAIS Bologna Center and a Master's Degree (ABD) in Political Science from the Johns Hopkins University, and has been a visiting student at the Latin American Studies Departments of the University College of London and University of California San Diego. Her research interests include processes of placemaking, place and space, vernacular architecture, social and spatial justice, and also exploring the potential applications of multimedia, particularly digital film, in the planning field as being one of the most ideal formats to understand people's relations with place. She is currently working on an ethnographic digital film about the places that anchor representations of Brazilian identities in the Tokyo urban landscape as part of her dissertation.
