  Dr. Joseph Agan is a Speech-Language Pathologist in private practice in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He is a former Clinical Assistant Professor of Communication Disorders at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He studied Communication Disorders at the University of Houston. Afterwards, he worked intensely with individuals with acquired brain injury in a variety of hosptial and rehabilitation settings. In doing so, he developed an interest in assisting individuals with cognitive-linguistic, speech and language pursue meaningful vocational activities. In 2009, Joseph completed his PhD in Rehabilitation at the University of Arkansas as a Walton Distinguished Doctoral Fellow. His research has employed ethnographic methodologies to study the role of literacy practices of individuals with severe speech disorders in pursuing vocational goals and in the ongoing work of identity construction. This research sparked his motivation to incorporate design practices into everyday clinical interventions. As an independent scholar and clinician, his pursuits have evolved to include interaction design, software development and digital/visual multimodal content tailored to the communication needs of individuals with communication disorders participating in educational and paid employment activities. In 2016, he founded Metis Speech Solutions a private speech-language pathology practice with a focus on assisting individuals with communication disorders reach their career and professional goals.
