  Born in Portugal in 1992, Raquel Ermida started the Artistic Studies PhD program at the NOVA School for Social Sciences and Humanities in Septembrer 2016. The research focus on the Micropolitics and the Invisible Dimension of Artist Collectives and is sponsored by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. She holds a Master degree in Visual Arts - Critical, Curatorial and Cybermedia Studies from the Haute Ecole d'Art et de Design - Genève completed in June 2016 with a master thesis title: On Democracy Through Arts - The Case of the Portuguese Democracy and Two Art Festivals. Ermida has been focusing her research on the importance of empowering democracy and citizenship by pointing out the subtleties of a perverse system (unaccomplished democracy, capital domination) through the means of arts. Her main research interests include the dialectical relation between art, politics and power, particularly on situated art practices and the potentialities of artist appropriation of public space.
