I am a second year PhD student in the Study of Religion program at UC Davis. Broadly, I am interested in religious conflict and violence, though I specialize on Christian fundamentalism in Brazil. I hold an MA in Global and International Studies from UC Santa Barbara, where I studied global culture, ideology, and religion. My MA thesis was about the rise of Pentecostalism around the world and especially in Brazil, where Pentecostals are on a campaign of hatred and violence against Afro-Brazilian religions and others. For this conference, I would like to present some of my current work, which expands on findings that I wrote about in my MA thesis. Namely, I look at the ideology of "Cosmic War" as a propellent for violence in Brazilian Pentecostalism (which is a case study of a much larger global phenomenon of religious resurgence and militancy).
