  Dr. Mahmoud Arani is a professor and former chair of the Applied Linguistics Department at Saint Michael's College (SMC in Colchester, VT. He has taught courses both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. At the undergradaduate level, he heas taught courses in methodology of second language teaching, languages of the world, second language acquisition, and the structure of the English language. At the graduate level, he has taught courses in teaching reading and writing, discourse analysis, introduction to language teaching, and practicum, among others. In addition to teaching in the U.S. for over 30 years, he has also offered summer courses at the Helenic American Union in Athens, Greece, and at the National University of Vietnam in Hanoi. His main area of research interest is in the application of discourse analysis in teaching reading and writing in a second language.
