I am a lecturer at Gulu University, about 350 km to the north of kampala. My research interest is in Climate Change vunerability, adaptation and devising mechanisms to build resilience to climate hange shocks among farmers. In addition, I like to engage in areas of research that generate solutions to societal problems like hunger, disease, poverty among others. To this end, I hope to seek opportunity to do further training in the area of GIS and other research capacity enhancing programs so as to build my research capacity further so as as to engage more effectively in research. I also hope to seek collaboraation with other researchers and scientist who have similar or related interests so as to work together on research programs that can generate solutions to the common challenges facing our societies. I look forward to working with peers and mentors across the globe on inter disciplinery programs of common interest. I hope to undertake post doctoral studies inthese related fields immediately on completing my the current doctoral study am undertaking. Prior to this doctoral program, I undertook a Masters of Arts degree in Geography from Makerere University. During this time, I undertook research on the socioecological impacts of channelisation on river basin utilisation along river Manafwa in Eastern Uganda. This was inspired by the fact that many communities in Uganda and the entire world depend on rivers as a source of livelihood in differenr ways for example, irrigation for agriclture, fishing, damming for elecricty generation, transportation among others. Whereas these activities are very important, they are lead to interference with the rivers' natural ecosystem and the related dynamics, which when over interrupted, can lead to dangerous conseques which ultimately affect the human society. Therefore, sustainable use of river basins require understanding the delicate balance between these dynamics. I feel this needs to be explored further. Prior to the Masters, I did a Bachelor of Education degree specilising in Geography and Christian Religious Education as my teaching subjects. I then workrd as a high school teacher for over ten years. In this regard, I have interest in pedagogy particularly improving the learning of high school students. This ties with my work as a lecturer because at my University, thr department of Geography is situated within the Faculty of Education where we train High School teachers. I therefore hope to improve my capacity to facilitate learning among these teacher trainees so as to improve their ability to facilitate more effective learning amongst high school teachers. There is need for curriculum improvement at the high school leve as well as improving the learning facilities and equipment so as enhance the learning of some of the seemingly abstract concempts particularly in Geography. This requires collaboration with peers, mentors as well as funding agencies. I look forward to joining and/or developing such networks for the sake of building the capacity of these high school students who are the future researchers as well as managers of our society. The earlier we the better.
