Dreeni Geer is the inaugural Director of Human Rights and Equity at Lakehead University. She was appointed to this position to create and lead Lakehead's Offie of Human Rights and Equity. Geer is also a sessional instructor at the Faculty of Law where she teaches International Human Rights Law. Geer has also created a multi-disciplinary human rights collective and led research in human trafficking. She comes to Lakehead with 20 years of human rights experience domestically and internationally. Previously Geer was Country Director with War Child where she led access to justice, peacebuiliding and education programs for conflict affected communities in Uganda, South Sudan and the Congo. Geer has also worked with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law in Sweden, supporting human rights programs in Belarus, and the the MENA region. Other roles have taken her across Asia and Africa working with civil society, academia, and governments for the rights realization of women, children, racialized minorities and other equity-seeking groups. Geer received her Juris Doctor from Queen's University and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Waterloo.
