  I am director of research programs at the City University of New York (CUNY), Office of Research, which provides student and faculty development programs at eighteen colleges within the CUNY system. In addition, I teach courses on urban sociology, criminology, race and ethnicity, drugs, and sex and gender at Fordham University. For the past five years, I have been conducting field research in Johannesburg, South Africa where I study the lives of migrants in an inner-city Johannesburg neighborhood.
