I have been teaching for the past sixteen years in Human Society and Its Environment Key Learning Area. I have always aspired to do more for my students and as a Geography teacher aimed to reach for the stars by either taking my students to the world outside or bringing to them in the classroom. My passion for the environment arose from my personal travel experiences with my parents as a young child and my father and uncles knowledge of the landscape, plants and wildlife around me. I crew up in the hinterland of the Byron Bay at an old gold mining town, Drake. This environment developed my passion for nature and thirst to explore my world around me. I learnt about the impact gold mining had on the local environment in early primary school. This drove my passion for protecting our environment. Graduating from a small central school I moved on to study my teaching degree at the University of New England Armidale. At the completion of my degree I was rewarded with full time permanent teaching role at Peel Technology High School in Tamworth. I dedicated ten years to the school and students. I learnt to teach at Peel Technology High School and my passion for education never declined. I eventually secured a transfer to the North Coast and agained began to study, this time in Environmental Sciences at Southern Cross University in Lismore. I completed this degree in 2016. Since I have been teaching at Southern Cross School of Distance Education. In this capacity I have been successful in gaining a position on the Learning Innovation Team at Southern Cross. In this role I propose a project that I aim to develop for the duration of a year. In 2017 with an amazing team of teachers, camera crew and facilitators I was instrumental in developing the schools first virtual excursion 'Lake Mungo Virtual Excursion'. This led to other similar endeavours including 'Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme Virtual Excursion' and 'Save Our Catchment Virtual Excursion'. Further in collaboration with DART NSW and Learning Systems NSW I have been involved in several live YouTube casts for Primary and High School students, the most recent 'Shark Week, Myths and Facts'.
