Is counseling the solution to the disciplinary issues,

Based on my experience, I have written 100s of counseling papers for addressing student’s academic and disciplinary issues. Counseling papers, for the most part, have their effects, it can change students’ behaviors to a point, but there were also times that they had no significant effect, or the effect was only temporary.

As an instructor wording of counseling papers were always challenging to me, for example, my counseling papers had two parts in it, first I had to address the problem in its impact on other students and the teaching team, and Second the solution, which generally was “DO NOT Do IT AGAIN” if the action repeats I will introduce you to the Dean’s office. In short, I was failing to understand the problem underneath, which lead the student to the action. Sometimes students have valid reasons for being disruptive inside the class, which is never addressed, either because the student does not have the communication power to talk about it, or the instructors fail to see it. Let us see a disrespectful situation in a class, that how does it look like.

One thing that always bothers me, it is the understanding of our students, we have students that are simply geniuses, they have better thinking or calculation powers than their instructors. They are the one who can change the world, yet we fail to identify them and treat them like everyone else inside the class. Some of these dropout students have changed the world.
