  Costas Panayotakis is Professor of Sociology at New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York. He is the author of Remaking Scarcity: From Capitalist Inefficiency to Economic Democracy (Pluto Press) and of numerous articles in various scholarly journals. He is currently working on The Capitalist Mode of Destruction, a book on the new contradictions that emerge as a result of contemporary capitalism's misuse of the surplus extracted from producers in the global North and South alike.
