  Lekan Balogun is at present a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Centre for Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies of the University of Cape Town, South Africa, where he is working on the project, "Reimagining Tragedy in Africa and the Global South" (RETAGS) being funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. He has previously taught in the Department of Creative Arts, University of Lagos, Akoka, Nigeria, where he studied for his BA & MA (Distinction) in Theatre Arts, before obtaining his PhD in Shakespeare and Intercultural Performance at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Balogun has published in the broad areas of postcolonial studies, film, gender and cultural studies, oral African literature, African & Diaspora Literature and theatre. Balogun is also an award-winning playwright and theatre director; he has written plays for the Royal Court Theatre, London; British Council, Nigeria; Flinn Theater, Germany; the National Troupe of Nigeria and the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC) to name. For over a decade, Balogun has been the artistic director of Legendaire Theatre, based in Lagos, Nigeria.
